He and his wife of 38 years co-authored a marriage book entitled Men Moved To Mars When Women Started Killing The Ones On Venus and numerous other books. His four children are a constant source of material for him.
Mike is a rescued child from an inner-city mother in trauma, who came to faith through his adopted parents. Years later, Mike and his wife, Terica, went on to rescue/adopt a child from a very similar background. His story will inspire you.
In 2010, Mike and his family stepped away from comedy to start a mission (CupsMission.com) that still thrives today, evangelizing, serving trafficked children, and feeding poor people living in a garbage dump. Shortly after they partnered with Jack Eason, expanding the work to Malawi, and Mexico City. Mike often says, “I want to live life more worthy of a statue than a tombstone.” The mission now has six schools, five churches, and fifteen full-time staff members Join us as we welcome him to Lansing, Michigan!
In 2011, moved by the poverty and the plight of little girls being trafficked on the streets of the Dominican Republic, Mike and his family packed their bags and headed for that island nation, believing they could do something about it. While there, they witnessed children on the streets being abused by the crazies that came from the U.S. They saw a garbage dump filled with hungry refugees in hopeless conditions. They decided to put their money where their heart was and do something about it.
Today the Crossover Cups Mission has grown to 5 villages, 6 schools, 16 buildings and numerous staff. The mission feeds five days a week for those who spend their life rummaging through a garbage dump for their existence. They rescue children from the garbage dump and provide a good education. The three Crossover-Cups Sewing Schools and the three bakery schools provide girls with viable business skills. English Second Language classes prepare them for a job in legitimate tourism. New houses are built, and old ones are refurbished. Every location has multiple Christian discipleship programs operating at age-graded levels.
Mike and his family no longer live in the Dominican full time, but you will find Mike there a few days almost every month. As the work has grown, it can no longer be completely funded through Mike’s comedy events. A variety of gracious partners have joined the tribe of life changers! From Frazeysburg, Oh to Albertville, AL. From Anchorage, AL to Simpsonville, SC. the mission is blessed to have wonderful partners in this ministry.
Mike represents the Crossover-Cups mission at local churches giving them an opportunity to have great humor, an inspirational message, and testimony about the mission. An offering is taken, and 100% of that offering goes directly to the work in the Dominican Republic.
